For Samantha Rei‘s first show since 2011, Black Pearl Lounge not only succeeded in it’s portrayal of 1920’s Shanghai in a new era, but it breathed much needed excitement into local vintage and evening wear. Rei undoubtedly played off of her past of Asian influenced styles, but the styling by Haus Salon and designer head-pieces from Apatico pulled each look together for “flapper-tastic” ensembles that both wowed and inspired.

The premier was perfectly set against the backdrop of the historic Gale Mansion, authenticating the experience. If it weren’t for some folks (like us at Curious North) donning modern clothing, it would have felt more like the Dr. Who episode “The Unicorn and the Wasp” versus a Friday night in 2015. Immersive and interactive, this reveal event defied our more traditional concept of a fashion show.

Now let’s take a look at what City Pages Fashion Artist of the Year showed last Friday night.

Rich tones, exciting cuts, classic elegance and a touch of sparkle make Black Pearl Lounge a collection of interest to experienced fashion aficionados and those of us that appreciate true artistry.
